UBiike Overview

AN OVERVIEW

Ubiike is a platform that connects people who want to rent out bikes in Ireland. Our team met at a Techstars Hackathon weekend in Waterford. We are a team of developers, designers & entrepreneurs. Sean Nolan was the person on the team who came up with the original idea of the bike rental platform. We came 2nd at the Techstars hackathon.

A bicycle sitting idle gathering dust is a problem which UBiike is tackling

THE PROBLEM

You are pretty lucky if you haven't experienced the feeling of visiting a bike rentals loading bay like Dublin Bikes and finding out that there are no rental bikes available. Also, people have bikes at home sitting idle gathering dust.

THE SOLUTION

Create a platform that connects people who want to let out their bikes to people who want to use the bikes for a period of time.

THE USER

As Ubiike is a marketplace platform we have 2 types of users. Firstly we have the people who advertise their bikes on our platform to be let out. Then we have the people looking to use the bikes for a period of time. In the next section we will look at the different personas involved.

THE PERSONAS

ROB

A UBiike user called Rob

Background

Rob is living in Dublin and is 30. He purchased a bike under the bike to work scheme 2 years ago. However, he does not use his bike to commute to work anymore as he now has a car. He is looking to make some extra money by renting out his bike.

Problem

Rob's bike is gathering dust in his home.

Opportunity

For Rob to rent out his bike using our platform. The platform should be super intuitive to use when uploading images and description of bike.

Solution

Rob could rent out his bike to gain revenue.

MELISSA

A UBiike user called Melissa

Background

Melissa is 36. She is very fit - she does triathlons. She is in Dublin for a weekend.

Problem

Melissa needs a way of getting around the city quickly and directly whilst working out.

Solution

Melissa rents out a bike for the weekend using our platform.

IVAN

A UBiike user called Ivan

Background

Ivan is 45. He is from London, England & he is in Ireland for a weekend to cycle the Greenway in Co. Mayo.

Problem

Bringing bikes onboard flights is expensive. Also, all the bike rentals shops are fully booked out as there is a cycling festival on this weekend.

Opportunity

Offer Ivan a solution by connecting him with people looking to rent out their bikes.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Surrounding yourself with good people will help you in the long run.
  • It's better to learn from someone who isn't involved with creating your product when it comes to UX design.
  • It is important to pivot if stuck when starting up a business. Don't pigeon hole yourself.
